Making an espresso-tonic is very simple and quick! Especially when you get the balance between acidity, sweetness and bitterness right, it becomes a very pleasant summer drink.
You will need:
- Glass with ice
- Rosemary infusion (1 sprig of rosemary infused in 150 gr. of water)
- 10 grams of orange marmalade
- Your favourite tonic water 150ml
- Double espresso
- To garnish: Rosemary and lime.
Have you got everything? Preparing it is as simple as that:
Step 1
Beforehand, prepare the rosemary infusion: one sprig of rosemary infused in 150ml of water for 5 minutes.
Step 2
Fill a glass with ice
Step 3
Add 50ml of the rosemary infusion mixed with 10 grams of the orange marmalade (previously strained to remove the small pieces).
Step 4
Add 150ml of your favourite tonic water.
Step 5
Top up with a double espresso or 50 ml of coffee prepared with your Italian coffee machine.
Step 6
Garnish with rosemary and lime
Here are some basic tips for making the perfect espresso-tonic:
1) Fill the glass with ice up to the rim of the glass.
2) Use a good tonic and let the tonic and ice mix while you prepare the espresso. This way the ice will cool the tonic sufficiently.
3) If desired, we usually recommend serving with a few slices of lime and a sprig of rosemary. The recipe would look great with a fruity espresso, poured lightly over ice and served immediately.
As always, we recommend that you choose specialty coffee to elevate the flavour of your coffee recipes. Additionally, you can try different brands of tonic to find one you like. Once you've decided on the ingredients, you can experiment with different proportions to find the right blend for you.
Enjoy!
